Getting Started

Blackreach Refuge is accessible from Blackreach, in the lake near the Derelict Pumphouse and below the Raldbthar Deep Market.  To get in, you need the Initiate's Ewer from the main quest of the Dawnguard DLC.  If you've lost it or don't want to go to the trouble of getting it, you can add one to your inventory via the console:

player.additem 0200a89e 1

If this command doesn't work, use the ID that this command gives you for the item instead of 0200a89e with player.additem:

help "Initiate's Ewer"

With the ewer in your inventory, activate the altar in the outer room.  This should open the door to the main area.  Alternately, if that doesn't work or you'd like to permanently remove the altar doors, open the console, click on an altar door to target it, and type disable.  If the wrong thing disappears, type enable to bring it back and try again.

There's an optional file that makes the ewer weightless, available as an ESL or ESP; may conflict with any mod that directly edits the ewer.

Details

The central room of the home contains crafting stations including a forge, smelter, workbench, grinder, tanning rack, cooking pot, Hearthfire oven, enchanting station, alchemy station, wood chopping block with axe, and wheat grinder.  All storage should be safe.  There are also two little Dwarven dudes wandering around in front of the fire; they're passive, and from the Vicn Creature Pack.  If you don't want them underfoot, you can disable or kill them safely without causing any problems with the mod.  (This goes for everything in the mod, actually; if you don't like any statics or such, you can get rid of them safely by opening the console, clicking on them, and typing disable).

To the left is a room with a large number of Hearthfire planters, which should be more than enough to cultivate every plantable item in the game.  Past the planters you'll find an apiary and a bed with a well-rested bonus.  There are also some extra planting areas at the end of the room, with Blackreach and Forgotten Vale flora for flavor.  A table by these areas holds some Dwarven clutter and tools, as well as a key for unlocking doors to wayshrines.

To the right is a wayshrine like those used in the Dawnguard main questline.  This wayshrine leads to a network of other wayshrines, allowing for travel to and from Solitude, Markarth, Dawnstar, Falkreath, Winterhold, Windhelm, Ivarstead, Riften, Morthal, and Whiterun.  There's an additional exit from the central wayshrine to the wilderness area between the Bronze Water Cave and the Nightgate Inn.  To enter and exit the wayshrines, you'll need the key from the left room and the Initiate's Ewer.  (If you want to bypass the ewer doors, you can disable them with the console; if you want to bypass the key-locked doors, you can unlock them with the console.)

Wayshrines should activate the first time you enter the cell that contains them.  If you hear a rumbling noise or your screen shakes for a few seconds, this is why.  If a wayshrine doesn't activate and rise out of the ground, something is seriously wrong; you can try waiting 30 days outside to reset the cell and re-entering, but please do let me know if this happens so I can try to figure out why.

Technical and Troubleshooting

This mod contains an ESP and some script, texture, and mesh resources.  Just add these to your mod manager (or data folder, if you like to live dangerously) as you would any other mod.  The sources for scripts are also included, in which you can see or modify my embarrassing fumbling attempts to make sure the wayshrines activate correctly.  Load order shouldn't be especially important.  If another mod edits a cell that contains one of the wayshrine exits, there will be a conflict; let me know and I can move the wayshrine or otherwise patch the conflict.

The base game and DLCs are required due to resources used.

The mod was designed with ELFX and ENB activated.  Consequently, I'm not sure how reasonable it will look with lighting setups that don't match mine.  There shouldn't be any danger of crashing or any other serious issues, but you may see minor QOL issues like washed out areas, too-dark areas, or flickering lights, the last especially if you carry a torch or other light source.  Feel free to drop me a comment describing what you see and any lighting mods you use, but I probably won't be able to do much.

If you have trouble finding the entrance, try warping there with the console:

coc aaVYSBlackreachRefugeExterior

If this command does nothing, it's likely you haven't installed the mod correctly.  Try reinstalling.  If the problem persists, there may be a conflict with another mod editing the area; load the mod later and see if the entrance shows up.  In this case leave a comment with the other mod and I'll see about making a patch.
